What creative accomplishments are you most proud of?
Wayne
My second album "Wake Up and See the Sun" is my greatest creative accomplishment because I feel that it captured the entirety of my musical journey thus far.

Do you have a routine for entering into a creative headspace?
Wayne
I don't have a ritual or routine for creativity. I feel that I'm already so inspired by the musicians I work with, that I don't need to prepare for it.

Do you have any habits you've built for yourself to foster creativity?
Wayne
I'm constantly learning music directly from the records of the artists I love. Both new and old.
Marianna
What does creativity mean to you?
Wayne
For me, creativity means artistic freedom. Feeling that anything can happen at any time.

When do your best ideas hit you?
Wayne
Usually early in the morning or late at night.
Marianna
Do you use a process to come up with ideas?
Wayne
My best ideas are usually stream of consciousness. I often compose on the piano, playing by my stream of consciousness. I record it and develop songs from the best ideas.

What are the unexpected turns your life took to lead you to become who you are today?
Wayne
My first instruments where the piano and the violin, but when I discovered the Trumpet at age 11, the role that music had in my life changed.

What sources of inspiration do you use to foster creativity in your work?
Wayne
Traveling is a great source of inspiration, everything from the smells and tastes to the language, to the art and architecture inspires me when I travel.

What do you think is something that the most creative people in the world have in common?
Wayne
The ability to let go and be themselves, be vulnerable.

How do you make sense of chaos in your life?
Wayne
I feel that I have a purpose in this world, so no matter what's happening in my life and in the lives of the people around me, music gives me order.

About Wayne Tucker:
Wayne Tucker is a Trumpet player, Composer, Arranger, and Vocalist based in New York City. He is a 2009 graduate of the Jazz Studies program at SUNY Purchase under the direction of Todd Coolman. Wayne has performed, toured and recorded with many of today's current Jazz stars including Kurt Elling, Al Foster, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Cyrille TheatreAimee, Popstars like Taylor Swift, David Crosby, Elvis Costello, Matt Simons, and Eric Hutchinson, R&B singers like Ne-Yo and Gabriel Garzon-Montano, Hip Hop artists such as Jidenna and Ryan Leslie, and with Rock bands like Brass Against.
He has performed at some of the world’s greatest venues including Madison Square Garden, The Hollywood Bowl, Avery Fisher Hall, The O2 Arena, The Apollo, The Ravinia Festival, and The Kennedy Center.
He has played for TV shows like The Tonight Show, America’s Got Talent, Jimmy Kimmel, Ellen Degeneres, The Today Show, and Good Morning America, and appeared in commercials for companies like Mastercard, Dove, and Get Your Guide.
Additionally, he wrote the soundtrack and co-stars in the short film Hotel Bleu, and appeared in commercials for companies such as Dove and Get Your Guide. He was a participant in the 2009 & 2011 Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program, 2009 National Trumpet Competition, 2009 & 2011 Steans Institute, 2005 New York All-State Jazz Orchestra, and more. Wayne has also performed at clubs and festivals all over the world in the United States, Europe, Asia, Latin America, Australia, and the Caribbean, and can be seen performing around the world with many of today's current and up and coming stars.
